Prose & Poetry Anthologies

A WORD ABOUT SAHITYA PRESS - The bilingual anthologies on this page were published by Sahitya Press, which began life in 1989 as the brainchild of Debjani Chatterjee & Safuran Ara. In the early years the press was called Bi-lingual Book Project. The name Sahitya Press was adopted in 2004. Sahitya is a Sanskrit word meaning 'Literature'. In creating & publishing its anthologies, Sahitya Press has so far co-operated with a range of community groups & organisations, e.g. Bengali Women's Support Group, Roshni Asian Women's Resource Centre, Pakistani Muslim Centre Women's Group, Burngreave Community Learning Campaign, Sheffield Industrial Museums & Sheffield Galleries & Museums.
Sahitya Press is an independent press and is so far unfunded. It looks to partners to find funding for each book. The press prioritises the work of South Asian women in Britain. Its latest anthology is by Sheffield children, Raising their Voices.
